Building a Culture of Trust and High Performance
Last week, we explored how aligning your business with a clear purpose adds value that transcends just the bottom line. This week, let’s shift our focus inward—to the culture of your team.
A high-performing team doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built intentionally, brick by brick, on the foundation of shared values, trust, and accountability. Patrick Lencioni identifies five dysfunctions that derail teams, starting with the absence of trust. Trust is the cornerstone of any team culture where people can admit mistakes, take accountability, and challenge each other without fear.
But trust doesn’t come from wishful thinking; it comes from action.
As Brene Brown teaches in her B.R.A.V.I.N.G framework:
- Boundaries: Respect and uphold them.
- Reliability: Do what you say you’ll do—consistently.
- Accountability: Own your mistakes and let others own theirs.
- Vault: Confidentiality builds safety.
- Integrity: Choose courage over comfort and live out your values.
- Non-judgment: Create space for vulnerability without judgment.
- Generosity: Assume the best in others.
These principles aren’t just theoretical; they’re tools you can use today to build trust and strengthen your team.

- What does trust look like in your team right now?
- Are there any of Lencioni’s five dysfunctions present in your team dynamics?
- What specific action can you take this week to foster trust—whether it’s addressing conflict, clarifying expectations, or leading with integrity?
Your team’s culture will determine your capacity to execute your purpose effectively. Make sure it’s one that champions trust and accountability.
