Make 2025 Your Best Year Yet (Even If Goal-Setting Feels Hard)
As we inch closer to the new year, I want to share something many of us hesitate to admit—goal setting can be hard.
For years, I struggled with setting meaningful goals. Sometimes it felt overwhelming, like I was supposed to predict the future, and other times it felt pointless, especially when life took unexpected turns that made those goals feel irrelevant.
But here’s what I’ve learned: setting goals isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about creating clarity, focusing on what matters, and giving God space to work through our plans. Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
The process of annual planning has become a cornerstone in my life. I now see it as a partnership—dreaming big while surrendering the details to God. When we approach planning this way, it shifts from being a rigid to-do list to a framework for intentional growth, guided by faith.
Why Annual Planning Matters
Even if goal setting feels daunting, consider these benefits:
- Clarity: It forces you to step back and think about what’s really important—not just in business, but in life.
- Focus: Goals help cut through distractions and prioritize what will make the biggest impact.
- Momentum: Having clear objectives turns dreams into actions, even if you start small.
The key is not perfection but progress. It’s okay if you’re not naturally a “planner” or if your goals feel messy or uncertain. What matters is starting.
My Own Journey with Goals
There were seasons when I avoided planning altogether, convincing myself it wasn’t necessary. But those were the times I felt the most directionless. When I started leaning into the process and invited God into the journey, things changed. The act of planning became less about control and more about alignment with His purpose.
Through that lens, I’ve learned to set goals that stretch me—goals that require faith and align with my greater purpose.
